The place of art and artists in the contemporary church 

We are really excited to welcome two immensely qualified speakers who will be focussing on the place of art and artists in the contemporary church. 

The programme for the afternoon is:

 

2:00    Welcome.

           Illustrated talk: Image and Intervention: the reredos as a site for contemporary art.

           Laura Moffatt, Director of Art and Christianity (A+C) and member of the Church Buildings Council.

           A+C seeks to foster and explore the dialogue between art, Christianity and other religious faiths:

3:00    Break for tea and cake.

           Short tours of the church and its contemporary artworks.

 

3:30     Illustrated talk: New Designs for Ancient Churches.

            John Maddison, artist and designer, member of the Advisory Committee of the Norfolk Historic
            Churches Trust and of the Historic Churches committee of the diocese of East Anglia.

            John Maddison is the designer of the reredos in both the Alcock Chapel and the Lady Chapel
            of Ely Cathedral.
