The Cathedral of the Marshes
14. Christ is entombed: Blow-up Bridge on Regent’s Canal, adjacent to Regent’s Park.
The space under this footbridge has long been used as a night shelter for homeless people. It is difficult of access – over fencing and separated from the towpath by the canal. Joseph of Aramathea buries Christ at night in a confusion of love, shame, and, possibly, disappointment. The vaulting of the arches and watery reflections suggest catacombs.
