The Cathedral of the Marshes
11. Christ is nailed to the cross: Meyer and Meyer Scrap metal recycling yard, off Old Oak Sidings.
On to the perimeter fence, Christ is nailed. The recycling depot has closed for the day and its crane stands idle. The process of piling mountainous heaps of scrap, and of loading the conveyor belt that takes the twisted shapes to the compressors, produces pyramids of swarf filings. At this point Christ is left like the scrap, ready to be returned to particles of dust.
