The Cathedral of the Marshes
1. Christ sentenced: Stable way W10: the horse ring under the A40 intersection.
The monumental weight of the Westway hangs over the figures, bearing down and allowing only a thin slice of light to illuminate the protagonists. Pilate stands in the centre of the horse ring, washing his hands. Christ is prodded forward, while Pilates’s gang members slouch in the peripheral gloom. This static arena is at the intersection of various routes and means of transport, but it marks the start of a seemingly one-way journey.
